Go is one of the latest open source programming languages ​​that is used to safely perform memory management and also helps to handle garbage collection gracefully. It is a statically typed language that can easily manage objects and therefore is a very efficient way of creating useful programs. We are going to install the Go language on Ubuntu by following the steps below:

Step # 1: Perform a system update

First, let’s do a system update using the command shown below:

$ sudo apt-get update

Step # 2: Go install on your upgraded system

After this system update, we can start installing the Go language on our system, which we can do with the following command:

$ sudo apt-get install golang

Install the Golang package that contains Go programming tools and compilers

The golang package contains the programming language compiler Go and tools. When this command is executed, you will be prompted for confirmation by pressing the “Y” key as shown in the image below:

Once you’ve done this, the Go language installation will be complete in a few minutes.

Step # 3: Confirm the installation of Go on your system

Confirm the Go language installation by checking the version.

$ go version
